I'm Not Guilty The Rampage Plead

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, who on Tuesday was formally charged by by the Orange County District Attorney’s office with two felonies and four misdemeanors stemming from a July hit-and-run incident, has plead not guilty to the charges, according to Sherdog.

Jackson on Thursday also posted $25,000 bail and was released from custody.

The former 205-pound king was charged with one felony count of evading while driving recklessly, one felony count of evading a peace officer and driving against traffic, three misdemeanor counts of hit and run with property damage, and one misdemeanor count of reckless driving.

If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison.

Following an initial collision with a vehicle, Jackson fled the scene but was quickly spotted by a police officer who noticed Jackson driving on a flat tire and talking on his cell phone. The officer attempted to stop Jackson but he instead led police on a brief chase, wrecking into another vehicle and nearly hitting several pedestrians before surrendering.

He is next scheduled to appear in court on October 9th for a pre-trial hearing.

According to rumors, Jackson, who on Wednesday announced he had signed a three-year deal with England-based Wolfslair fight team, will return to the octagon on November 15th to take on Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

Couture Wants One Shot Again AT UFC

The Famous UFC heavyweight champion Randy "The Natural Couture", who has not fought in over a year due to a contract dispute with the promotion, may return to the octagon one final time before the end of the year as part of a settlement with the UFC.

MMA Junkie reported the development late-Thursday.

According to the report Couture, who last defeated Gabriel Gonzaga via third-round TKO at UFC 74 in August 2007, is “willing to fight once more for the UFC, possibly before the end of the year, as a potential resolution to his ongoing legal battles with the fight promotion”.

It is not yet known if the UFC, who is currently in arbitration with Couture in Nevada, would accept the offer.

Three More Fighters Cut From UFC Roster

In an ongoing effort by the UFC to trim their contract roster, the organization has recently dispensed of lightweight Din Thomas, and welterweights Kuniyoshi Hironaka and Tommy Speer, according to the latest print edition of The Wrestling Observer.

Din Thomas, a veteran of The Ultimate Fighter 4: The Comeback, has put up back-to-back losses against Kenny Florian and Josh Neer, and will now look to fight elsewhere at 145lbs as planned. Thomas had recently expressed interest in fighting at featherweight in the WEC, but his wishes have not been granted, as he has reportedly been let go by Zuffa completely.

Tommy Speer gets the axe following his highlight reel knockout loss to Anthony Johnson at UFC Fight Night 13. Prior to that, Speer was the runner-up on The Ultimate Fighter 6, losing to now-lightweight, Mac Danzig, at the finale of the show.

Kuniyoshi Hironaka has only had one win since competing in the UFC, which was over Forrest Petz last year at UFC Fight Night 9. Hironaka’s first fight inside the octagon was a decision loss to Jon Fitch, and his last two performances both resulted in TKO’s losses, at the hands of Thiago Alves and most recently Jonathan Goulet.

Additional fighters confirmed to have been released from their UFC contracts include Travis Lutter, Jake O?Brien, Kalib Starnes, Joe Doerksen, David Heath, Charles McCarthy, and John Halverson as well as many recent “Ultimate Fighter” cast members.

Affliction Banned From EliteXC, Loses Arena For First-Ever Event

Affliction, the clothing company turned upstart MMA promotion, has now been banned as a sponsor from EliteXC, after receiving the same treatment from the UFC earlier this year:

?Since Affliction is starting their own MMA organization, both the UFC and EliteXC have now decided that its fighters cannot wear the clothing line during its events. The primary concern of the fighters is that they lose a large stream of income, as sponsorships sometimes exceed the money that they would receive from even the fights themselves.?

The EliteXC banning isn?t the only roadblock Affliction has hit lately, as it was also reported that the company had indeed lost out on a partnership agreement with Oscar De La Hoya?s ?Golden Boy Promotions?:

“The two sides couldn’t reach an agreement however, and parted over control issues. De La Hoya officially confirmed that he was taking his hat out of the MMA ring for now in order to focus on building the sport of boxing.”

Lastly, Affliction seems to have soured their broadcast deal with HDNet, which in turn has caused some venue-fumbling for their inaugural July 19 show:

“…A proposed deal between Affliction and HDNet appeared to have fallen through. As a result, Affliction was not able to finalize an agreement to book the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas for its first show. The event, which is slated to be headlined by Fedor Emelianenko taking on Tim Sylvia, could now be held at The Pond in Anaheim, Calif., instead.”

UFC Champions Silva, Nogueira To Open MMA Academy In Miami

UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva and Interim UFC Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira have both relocated from Brazil to Miami to open an MMA academy in the city, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Nogueira and Silva will train together at the new facility, dubbed the “Nogueira and Silva Mixed Martial Arts Academy”, while also offering seminars and classes for children and adults of all levels. The pair will also work with underprivileged children at the new academy, the first-ever to be headed by two UFC champions.

The 15,000 square-foot facility opens on May 16th and a seminar titled “What It Takes To Be A Champion” is set for May 17th.

Jiu-jitsu and judo black belt Daniel Valverde will also be part of the gym’s staff.

Here’s a quote from Nogueria on the new venture:

“The sport is growing here now and is a hotbed for mixed martial arts.Big things are growing here. This has been a dream to open an academy together here. This is a good area and the weather is very good. In Miami, you can walk in the street and see people. It’s like Brazil. This is the right time and right place. This is the biggest time right now, in America, for this sport.”

Nogueira’s brother, Antonio Rogerio Nogueria, will join the team next year.

According to the report, Nogueria stated that he may return to the octagon in August against an opponent to-be-determined.

Tito Ortiz Passes Pre-UFC 84 Drug Test

Popular UFC fighter and former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz has been drug tested by the Nevada State Athletic Commission in advance of his main card bout against Lyoto Machida at UFC 84 on May 24th in Las Vegas, according to MMA Weekly.

Ortiz’s test results were negative.

UFC 84 headliners Sean Sherk, who previously tested positive for steroids following a UFC lightweight title defense in California last July, and BJ Penn have also tested clean in pre-event drug tests.

Matt Arroyo Added To TUF7 Finale Fight Card

“The Ultimate Fighter 6: Team Hughes vs. Team Serra” welterweight cast member Matt Arroyo (3-1) will return to the octagon on June 21st at “The Ultimate Fighter 7″ Finale. Arroyo announced the news on his official website earlier this week.

Arroyo’s opponent for the bout has not yet been announced.

After defeating Dorian Price and Troy Mandaloniz in the first two rounds of the reality series, Arroyo was forced to withdraw from the competition and a scheduled semifinal matchup against eventual show winner Mac Danzig after sustaining a rib injury. John Kolosci was selected to replace Arroyo in the competition.

At “The Ultimate Fighter 6″ Finale Arroyo defeated Kolosci via first round submission.

The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale is headlined by a middleweight showdown between former champion Evan Tanner and The Ultimate Fighter 3 winner Kendall Grove. Additional main card bouts officially announced for the Spike TV broadcast are the middleweight tournament finals, Diego Sanchez versus Luigi Fioravanti, and Spencer Fisher versus Jeremy Stephens.

Adrenaline MMA?s Second Event Scheduled For September 6th In Illinois

Despite not having completed their first MMA event, scheduled for June 14th in Chicago, Adrenaline MMA has already announced their second event. Adrenaline MMA President and CEO Monte Cox announced that the promotion will hold its second-ever event on September 6th at the i wireless Center in Moline, Illinois through MMA Weekly.

Opened in 1993, the i wireless center holds 12,000-plus spectators and is located in the Quad Cities region, which includes Bettendorf, Iowa, home of Miletich Fighting Systems.

Miletich fighters Tim Sylvia (24-4) and Ben Rothwell (27-5) have been confirmed as appearing on the September fight card, though their opponents have not yet been announced.

Prior to his September bout, Sylvia is scheduled to face top-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko at an Affliction-promoted event in July.

Pre-UFC 84 Interview With UFC Newcomer Goran Reljic

UFC newcomer Goran Reljic will make his UFC debut on May 24th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas at UFC 84. Reljic will face American Top Team fighter Wilson Gouveia (10-4), winner of four-straight UFC fights, in a televised main card bout.

Earlier this year MMAFrenzy.com exclusively announced the signing of the Croatian light heavyweight prospect who was to make his debut with the promotion in March. When the event he was to compete on was scrapped, Reljic’s UFC debut was pushed back.

Now set for his octagon debut, the 7-0 Reljic recently sat down for a pre-UFC 84 interview with MMAManager.net’s Zoran Saric:

MMA Manager: Hello Goran How is your day today?

Goran Reljic: My day is doing great thanks for asking.

MMA Manager: Which city are you stationed in at the moment?

GR: At the moment I am in the beautiful Las Vegas.

MMA Manager: What a pleasant surprise to have you in the US. Is it your first time here?

GR: My first time here, yes.

MMA Manager: So you must have lot of fun in Vegas?

GR: Not really. To be honest with you I haven?t seen the town yet, at the moment I just eat, train and sleep. That s why I am here.

MMA Manager: Let me guess, you are training in Randy Couture?s gym?

GR: You are right!!

MMA Manager: When did you decide to change training camp 2 months before the fight?

GR: First of all I took strong advice from my manager Zoran Saric to come to the US and prepare for the fight 2 months before,

and on the top of that I need to train with the UFC level fighters which is hard to get in Europe.

MMA Manager: How is your preparation for upcoming fight coming up?

GR: Excellent I am injury free; train 2-3 times a day usually morning strength and conditioning and night sparing and techniques.

MMA Manager: Who are your sparing partners?

GR: Randy Couture, Wanderlei Silva, Forrest Griffin, Martin Kampmann, Jay White, Mike Pyle and all the others from Extreme Couture.

MMA Manager: What do you think about Extreme Couture?

GR: Its great because there are a lot of high level sparring partners at the one place, trainings are hard but that s the only way to push forward and make the progress to win.

MMA Manager: Where did you train in Europe?

GR: In Croatia with CRO COP, and in London with Roger Gracie

MMA Manager: Can you explain the difference between Europe and US in training of MMA?

GR: It would take me whole week to talk about, let s say that Europe and USA are 2 different worlds as far as training goes.

MMA Manager: So how did you end it up in UFC?

GR: I am here to fight and I believe one day be the best, and for everything else my manager Zoran Saric is the man who made the decisions in my carrier and he got me in the UFC.

MMA Manager: Let?s talk about your opponent Wilson Gouveia, what do you know and think about him?

GR: He is a good fighter with great guillotine chokes, heavy hands, strong grip and strong leg kicks, all respect to him but he did not impress me in any way.

It looks like he?s got a lot of luck fighting. For everything else I know that I am better fighter and I will prove it may 24th with no mercy; its business, its not personal.

MMA Manager: He is coming from last 4 straight wins in UFC, what do you think about that? Did he impress you in any way?

GR: Not at all, seems like he was losing in every one of them and somehow ended up with Guillotine or KO but luck is important too.

MMA Manager: What are your plans and tools for the upcoming fight?

GR: Not too many people know about me and my skills and just for the first time I would like to keep it a secret.

MMA Manager: This is your biggest fight so far, are you exited and mentally ready for it?

GR: Yes I am excited and ready. I can?t wait!

Fickett-Shields EliteXC Title Bout Postponed Again Due To Injury

An EliteXC welterweight title bout between Jake Shields (20-4-1) and Drew Fickett (33-5) scheduled for June 14th in Hawaii has again been postponed, this time due to a knee injury suffered by Fickett.

EliteXC Vice President Jared Shaw announced the latest setback in a recent interview with MMA Weekly:

“Obviously the back injury happened (to Shields) and the easiest thing to do was move him to Hawaii to fight Drew. Unfortunately since then Drew Fickett has hurt his knee and he?s not going to be able to take that fight on June 14 and that will be rescheduled again.”

A March 29th scrap for the title at an EliteXC and Strikeforce co-promoted event was postponed after Shields suffered a then-undisclosed injury that forced him to withdraw from the fight.

Depending upon the severity of Fickett’s injury, the bout may be rescheduled as a co-main event for EliteXC’s second primetime event on CBS on July 26th.

Fickett is a seven-fight UFC veteran who had secured four victories inside the octagon. Following his last UFC fight, a win over Keita Nakamura in early-2007, Fickett won back-to-back fights in late-2007 to earn a shot at the EliteXC Welterweight Title. Fickett remained on the March 29th card after Shields withdrew from the title bout and defeated Jae Suk Lim via first round submission.

Shields is a former Shooto champion and current Rumble on the Rock titleholder and has coached notable mixed martial artists Nick Diaz and Gilbert Melendez. He is 20-4-1 in his professional career and is currently riding a nine-fight win streak which includes a November submission victory over Mike Pyle.

Headlining the June 14th event, which will air on Showtime, is an EliteXC lightweight bout between current champion KJ Noons and challenger Yves Edwards. Nick Diaz versus Muhsin Corbbrey, Murilo ?Ninja? Rua versus Tony Bonello, Rafael Feijao versus Wayne Cole, and Dave Herman versus Ron Waterman have also been announced for the main, televised card.

Roundup: Sherk and Penn Pass Drug Tests, Kimbo on ESPN Cover, and More

Sean Sherk and BJ Penn have both passed early random drug tests for their upcoming UFC 84 bout.

Rich Franklin’s manager, Monte Cox, has stated that Franklin would indeed make the move to light-heavyweight if the UFC requested.

The lightweight match up between Roger Huerta and Kenny Florian has been confirmed to take place on August 9 at UFC 87.

CBS Chairman Sumner Redstone publicly criticized the EliteXC-CBS broadcast partnership for not being “socially responsible.”

The revised DREAM 3 card now features Nick Diaz and Jason Miller, as well as Hayato Sakurai and Katsuya Inoue.

Kimbo Slice will appear on the cover of this months issue of ESPN The Magazine. Kimbo is only the second MMA fighter to ever be featured on the cover of the publication after Chuck Liddell.

Kimbo Slice was also the subject of a recent ESPN column which criticized Slice as a poor representation of African Americans.

“Anytown Beatdown”, the new reality T.V. series starring Tito Ortiz, is holding a casting call this Sunday to find contestants who will be trained by Ortiz to compete in MMA grudge matches.

A welterweight bout between Chris Wilson and Steve Bruno has been booked for UFC 86.

Carlos Condit Signs Contract Extension With WEC

World Extreme Cagefighting Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit (22-4) has signed a contract extension with the WEC according to USA Today. Condit had just one fight remaining on his previous contract with the promotion, which is owned by the same parent company as the UFC.

Terms of the extension were not disclosed.

Condit has emerged as one of the top welterweights in the world with notable career wins over Frank Trigg and Renato Verissimo. He has not lost a single fight since mid-2006, winning all seven fights over the near-two year span. After defeating Kyle Jensen in his WEC debut last January, Condit defeated John Alessio to claim the welterweight title at WEC 26. He has since defended his title twice with submission wins over Brock Larson at WEC 29 and Carlo Prater at WEC 32 in February.

Condit is next scheduled to fight in August.

?The Ultimate Fighter? 7 Episode 5 Recap

We open up this week with a brief recap of Team Forrest’s Tim Credeur’s hard fought win over Matthew Riddle last week that pushed his team’s record to 2-0 and allowed them to retain control of picking the fights for the third straight episode. Credeur, a long-time MMA veteran with many fights under his belt, congratulates the younger Riddle on his performance in the fight and offers to purchase him an Xbox 360 when they leave the show.

On the ride back to the house Riddle’s teammate, Jeremy May, criticizes Riddle for receiving a prize despite his losing performance by blurting out “You don?t defend the armbar, and you get an Xbox.” The rest of the team has little to add and May is only getting started with antagonizing the rest of the house.

Back at the TUF house May locks Credeur outside and annoys Jesse Taylor to the point that he throws a Gatorade bottle at him. May’s next move may, in the end, seal his exit from the house as he pours lime juice into Matt Brown’s tobacco chew. Brown is not pleased at the poor attempt at humor and informs May that he is going to pick him in the next fight.

When the fight selection comes down, however, Team Forrest sends Dante Rivera to face off with Team Rampage’s Brandon Sene. It’s another paper mismatch with Rivera having more experience than Sene but the bout is quickly underway and the paper matchups go out the window. Both rounds are very close with Rivera controlling the pace of the fight with takedowns and ground control though Sene appears to do more damage throughout the duration. The fight could go either way and the judges call for a third and decisive round.

In the final round it’s more of the same as Rivera controls the pace of the fight while Sene connects with more strikes but in this bout it’s the “octagon control”, and not damage, that earns Rivera the decision victory, albeit a very controversial one. Coach Quinton Jackson can’t beleive Sene lost the fight and loses his cool and flips furniture in the dressing room in anger and disbelief. Unfortunately for Team Rampage the motivation is too little, too late and the team is now down 0-3 in the middleweight competition and Team Forrest retains the fight selection for the next bout.

As the show wraps up one of next week’s two bouts is announced and, as promised, it’s Team Rampage’s Jeremy May against Team Forrest’s Matt Brown.

Chris Leben Arrested, Charged With Probation Violation and DUI

UFC middleweight Chris Leben was arrested yesterday in Oregon by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Department and has been charged with driving under the influence and violating his probation. He was denied bail.

Leben (18-4) is scheduled to face off with Michael Bisping at UFC 85 on June 7th in London, England. “The Cripler” is 8-3 inside the UFC octagon with wins over Jason Thacker, Patrick Cote, Edwin Dewees, Jorge Rivera, Luigi Fioravanti, Jorge Santiago, Terry Martin, and Alessio Sakara and losses to Anderson Silva, Jason MacDonald, and Kalib Starnes. He last fought in March at UFC 82, defeating Sakara via first round TKO.

Fedor Emelianenko Vs Tim Sylvia Its ON!!!

Top ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko will fight Tim Sylvia on July 19. The Russian mixed martial arts champion confirmed the bout to Sherdog.com on Tuesday.

"[Sylvia] is a good fighter, a strong fighter, the former UFC heavyweight champion, which is important," Emelianenko said via telephone from Stary Oskol, Russia. "I am looking forward to fighting him and training hard for this fight."

While Emelianenko was short on details, Sherdog.com has learned through sources close to the negotiations that Fedor-Sylvia would headline a card tentatively scheduled for the American Airlines Center in Dallas, the home base of HDNet Fights.

HDNet Fights CEO Andrew Simon declined to comment on the report, however sources indicate the bout will air on the Mark Cuban-owned network and is rumored to be promoted by Affliction, a clothing brand closely tied to MMA.

Affliction had been connected with Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, however a June 28 Las Vegas date has since been discarded.

Emelianenko, a 31-year-old sambo practitioner, has faced criticism from media and fans alike after a string of fights against less than stellar competition. Sylvia would represent the Russian's first ranked opponent since his unanimous decision over Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic nearly three years ago.

Widely regarded as the top heavyweight fighter in the world, Emelianenko (27-1-0, 1 NC) was recently freed from a letter of intent binding him to the now-defunct M-1 Global promotion.

Sylvia, 32, is coming off a submission loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (Pictures) in February at UFC 81. After a spirited performance that saw him batter his foe at will with strikes, Sylvia (24-4-0) eventually fell victim to a classic Nogueira come-from-behind performance and succumbed to a guillotine choke early in the third round.

NEW YORK — Executives at M-1 Global announced today they have started a new promotion called Adrenaline MMA and will begin promoting major events in the U.S. beginning in June.

Adrenaline will replace M-1 Global in the U.S. immediately. The change also includes the release of Russian fighter Fedor Emelianenko, who is free to seek fights elsewhere.

Monte Cox is the President and CEO of Adrenaline MMA. Bob Clark is the COO and Brian Patton is VP responsible for sponsorships and endorsements.

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Ricco Rodriguez will fight highly-touted heavyweight Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva at EliteXC’s “Street Certified” event on February 16th in Miami.

Rodriguez (27-7 MMA, 5-2 UFC) fought in the UFC from 2001 through 2003. After wins over Andrei Arlovski, Pete Williams, Jeff Monson, and Tsuyoshi Kohsaka Rodriguez defeated Randy Couture to win the promotion’s then-vacant heavyweight title. In his very next fight, however, he lost the belt to Tim Sylvia. After losing back-to-back-to-back fights Rodriguez has bounced back strongly earning a 13-3 record in a variety of MMA promotions. After dropping his IFL debut against Ben Rothwell in September Rodriguez defeated Kevin Filal via TKO in his last fight in December.

Silva (9-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) fought as a 300-pound super heavyweight before dropping down to the 265-pound heavyweight limit for his last EliteXC fight in November, a first round win over Jonathan Wiezorek. None of his 10 professional bouts have made it past the first round.

Brandon “The Truth” Vera will be out of commission until at least May with a broken scaphoid, a small bone located in the thumb which Vera apparently broke during the first round of his fight against Tim Sylvia according to a report from MMA Weekly.

Here’s a snip from Vera:

“My thumb got caught and pulled back like a banana….I held my breath and pulled it real hard and it didn’t go back in… I finished the first round, went back to my coaches, who were like ‘(expletive) your left hand, you don’t need it! Use your right hand.’ I was like cool, I won’t use my left hand…”

Vera also apologized for producing such an unexciting fight with Sylvia and looks toward a positive future:

“I sucked. That was one of the most boring fights ever. I’m ashamed to have been a part of it… I wish they would put me with Tim again, but it looks like I’m going to climb up the ladder again. I don’t care who they put me with, I’m banging. I’ll make sure not to punch so hard in the beginning; I’ll make sure I use up all the rounds.”

When asked to comment on the upcoming bout between Sylvia and Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera for the interim heavyweight title, Vera, with three shiny new screws in his hand, said “It’s really hard to look at…Coulda, shoulda, woulda been me, so it sucks.”

UFC 81 - Tim Sylvia Vs Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

Tim Sylvia (24-3) and Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira (30-4-1) will fight for the interim heavyweight title at UFC 81: “Breaking Point” on February 2 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The official announcement came during the UFC 79: “Nemesis” pay-per-view (PPV) event during a promo between fights. It’s a match up that has long been rumored since “The Maine-iac” stopped Brandon Vera in November via unanimous decision.

Of course, it couldn’t have been made possible without the high-profile resignation of former division champion Randy Couture earlier in 2007. However, the Nogueira-Sylvia clash will be for the “interim” not “vacant” championship.

Sylvia is the former titleholder who lost his belt to Couture at UFC 68: “The Uprising” back in March. He underwent back surgery to repair herniated discs and returned to get a win over “The Truth” in Cincinnati. That was enough to earn him another crack at the coveted strap.

Nogueira barely escaped his Octagon debut, surviving an early knockdown during his fight with Heath Herring at UFC 73: “Stacked” in July to earn a unanimous decision. “Minotauro” is the former Pride FC champion and will look to capture similar glory under the UFC banner.

UFC 81 also features the heavyweight showdown between former division champion, Frank Mir, and former professional wrestling superstar, Brock Lesnar.

Vitor Belfort wants to make a legitimate return to the UFC’s Octagon, and he marked a line in the sand by calling out Tito Ortiz. On December 13th, TAGG Radio had Vitor on their show where he confirmed that he had spoken with Zuffa officials regarding a possible return to the UFC. He said that a deal is very possible and that he would like redemption against Tito Ortiz. Can the “Phenom” really make an impact in the new Light Heavyweight division that the UFC has put together? To give us a sense of where Vitor is currently at in his career, let’s take a small look at his most recent fights.

Vitor’s recent conquests

Vitor has recently fought two battles in the British promotion, Cage Rage. He defeated Ivan Serati by TKO in April and won with a somewhat lackluster performance against James Zikic to obtain the Light Heavyweight Cage Rage title. Many fans have been very critical of his bout with James Zikic in particular. Vitor’s performance was considerably less eventful than you may be used to, but James Zikic is not a slouch. Zikic has draws against great ground fighters such as Fabricio Werdum and Jeremy Horn. If you watch the fight, Vitor basically plows into Zikic and tries to pound him, and Zikic is able to make Vitor miss and maintain a very good defense to Vitor’s offense. Vitor did more on top and was able to win the victory, but the only real story that came from the fight was that Belfort didn’t look good in his performance.

Belfort still defeated a fairly strong Ivan Serati, went to decision with a heavy-handed Dan Henderson, lost by decision to a very lengthy Alistair Overeem, and lost by a close split decision to Tito Ortiz. Although Serati isn’t in the same realm as far as ability of those other names, Belfort still had a decent run in 2006. He may not have won most of those fights, but hanging with Henderson and not being incapacitated is a feat in itself. If Vitor can stay steroid free and begin to see real gains in his power again, we could see at least a mid-echelon fighter with the ability to upset some upper-echelon fighters.

What can Vitor do in the UFC?

Vitor can do a lot in the UFC. First, he can lend credibility to some of the mid to upper echelon fighters trying to make their way up to the top. Beating someone who has been in the business of MMA for a long time and was successful goes a long way in building a champion-like résumé. Secondly and tied to the first advantage, he can keep the fighters who just aren’t ready for the upper-tier of competition down where they belong. He can act as a gatekeeper for the upper portion of the division. Not only does this help those fighters who can’t get past someone like Vitor realize that they must improve in certain aspects of their game, but it again adds to a fighter’s record if they do overcome his skillset.

Lastly, Vitor can break out of that gatekeeper mold with a good string of solid performances. We never know what can happen in a mixed martial arts fight, but Vitor Belfort does have the skill to produce upsets. He always has that element of power in his hands that can beat anyone. A slick ground game and a black belt in jiu-jitsu along with some great boxing technique is a formidable obstacle for any up-and-coming fighter. As a gatekeeper to the top dogs or a legitimate contender, Vitor can serve a purpose and produce exciting fights with some motivation in his training.

Tito vs. Vitor?

People love to hate Tito Ortiz, but that’s exactly what the UFC and Tito want. As much as many hardcore fans hate to admit it, Tito Ortiz is recognizable to the casual fans and people still pay to see him get beatdown, which never really happens. Tito could sell this fight. It’s a rematch of a close decision win for Tito, and he would spin the matchup with a mean streak, most likely telling fans that Vitor doesn’t deserve a shot at him and that he already beat him. If Vitor comes back with the same venom, fireworks could erupt and that’s what the UFC wants. Hell, even hardcore fans may want to see an amped up Tito vs. Vitor Belfort matchup. Any fight is better with the increased tension and animosity between the combatants.

Can this fight work? Yes. Can it sell? To an extent, Yes. It won’t be a huge blockbuster pay-per-view matchup, but it most certainly should be in the interests of the UFC to bring Vitor to the UFC as a mid to upper echelon gatekeeper with the possibility of being a real contender. The Tito Ortiz fight alone could definitely be a refreshing splash back into the days when Ortiz amped up fights by getting his opponent to fire back at him with anger. Let’s see it happen, why not!?

Update On Ryan Gracie's Death

Multiple reports have confirmed that Ryan Gracie tested positive for cocaine, marijuana, and an unidentified form of anti-anxiety medication.

Psychiatrist Sabino Ferreira de Faria, who attended to Gracie most of the night at the jail, was informed of his death while on his way home. Gracie’s wife had contacted Sabino after hearing of Ryan’s arrest.

The doctor attending to Gracie in his cell stated that he had administered the following drugs to calm him down.

Topamax (for Migraines)
OmniPlex (relaxant)
Haldol (powerful antipsychotic)
Dienpax (tranquilizer)
Fenergan (for allergies)

The officer that found Gracie dead in his cell believes he died of an apparent heart attack.

“When I went to his cell, I saw him lying on his mattress,” Bittencourt told the associated press. “He had no pulse and a reddish liquid was coming out of his mouth. It seems to me he died of a heart attack.”

The official medical examiner’s report is yet to be released to confirm the official cause of death. I will let you know as soon as this story is updated.

Ryan Gracie, 33, a grandson of Carlos Gracie was found dead in his prison cell 7 am yesterday morning. It was reported by GracieMag article that he was arrested earlier at around 1:30 for stealing a vehicle and a failed attempt to steal a Bike to getaway with the police trying to subdue him. The prison guard found The Brazilian fighter collapsed in the corner. Blood testing shows that the Gracie was found positive for a variety of prohibited drugs. But the cause of death itself was not yet known.

Regulated mixed martial arts has experienced its first casualty

Vasquez a fighter licensed to compete by the Texas Boxing and Wrestling Program. Get a hard beating from Another MMA fighter Libardi in the third round of there match up.

This is just the third professional fight of Vasquez which is promoted by Saul Soliz, veteran trainer who has worked with some of the well known UFC champions. He also host a of local Texas fighters, including Vasquez.

Vasquez was dropped numerous times but the referee allowed to him stand up and continue the fight until he was collapsed.

The fight took place on Oct. 20 scheduled at the Toyota Center in Houston. Vasquez died Friday at the age of 35, according to a report by TheFightNetwork.com.
The cause of death was not yet released but The Harris County Medical Examiner, thought that the reason might be some of his pre fight medical conditions and at his age could also be a factor. Doctors removed blood clots on his brain resulting from injuries.

Vasquez, the father of a 7-year-old boy, lost his battle with the apparent affects of a regulated mixed martial arts fight.

Serra will have to withdraw from the UFC 79 card on December 29th due to an injury
sustained during training earlier this week.

The current UFC welterweight champion, who was scheduled to fight Matt Hughes on the year-end card, suffered a herniated disc in his lower back on Monday following a routine training session in his Long Island gym.

“This is devastating news because they were so looking forward to fighting each other," said White.
“Unfortunately injuries happen and I look forward to Serra recovering quickly, and to getting him back into the Octagon.”

Serra had just finished a Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling training session and was demonstrating a move when he fell to the floor in excruciating pain. Serra went to the hospital and underwent an MRI, which revealed the herniated disc in his lower back.

Brandon Michael "The Truth" Vera (born October 10, 1977 in Bronx, New York) is a Filipino/Italian-American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, currently fighting in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) as a heavyweight. He currently resides in San Diego, California.

Vera is the son of a Filipino father, Ernesto, and an Italian-American mother, Amelia, and grew up in a family with seven boys and three girls. He was born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia , and attended Lake Taylor High School, where he excelled in wrestling and earned a four-year athletic scholarship to Old Dominion University. When MMA was first introduced here by pioneers Alvin Aguilar and Organized URCC, Many Filipino Combatants of different Style did part take. And the rise of name like Fritz Rodriguez, Mike Banayad, Mumbaki, Charlie Angel, Mark Sanqiao, Glen Sumanoy, TJ Chiu, Alan CO, Carlos Tiongson, And Mr. Erwin Tagle which I'm fortunate to train with in Baguio ,when i was just starting out Grappling. Most of this guys who first dominated the MMA scene in the Philippines have already backgrounds of Bjj which is very important component of MMA. They Must Owe there success to the same people who spread the art When UFC is still starting out, I'm pertaining to the Gracie's and there Jiu Jitsu.

This type of combat sports was not hard to be accepted in the Philippines because naturally they love fight sports, Like Arnis, Boxing, Judo Taekwondo, Karate. And seing every component in one event make them crave for more. Just look at The Success of URCC, and Real pinoy fighters, Fearless Fighting Champinoship, this only shows that Pinoy Loves competition and are world class athletes.
I'm Not surprised if one day a pure Pinoy form Philippines would win in the famous Octagon In UFC. And there are fighters that already a pinoy MMA fighter Like Brandon Vera that is very much dominating in the UFC. The Rise of Reality Tv shows like real pinoy fighters, where they build two teams of selected mma fighters in the philippines . And put them all together in some task "ala" Ultimate fighter reality show in the US by UFC.

It is exciting to see this great combat athletes to square off with each other and prove themselves to be the real pinoy fighter. MMA in the Philippines is still in its infancy and there are lots of potential International fighters here. There are some pinoys that even makes it to the UFC like Brandon " The Truth" Vera. MMA'ers here are just glad that This sport is being promoted by the URCC and By mr. Alvin Aguilar, there are no big sponsors here yet but we could see a lot of promising stars that needs only to be discovered. Filipino is always been good in international events good example are manny pacquiao, Brandon vera, and lots more.

As long as we have awaited for him to fight in the famous octagon to prove he's superiority in other younger and great MMA athlete, this dream might never happen? Oh God Why? Now that fedor signs with m1, anything could happen in the world of MMA, They Might be the next challenge organization for UFC like prideFC did.

The M1 Organization is formerly run By his manager Vadim Finkelstein, has been purchased by a company with ties to the American entertainment industry, and of course emilianenko's reputation would make him a big priority of the organization to sign up. Another Great loss for UFC, The 44 year old Heavy weight Champ Randy Couture Announced his retirement And vacating the Ufc Heavy Weight Belt. the natural's reason is he would retire if he won't face the regarded best mma fighter of the world Emilianenko Fedor. Fedor is being courted by Dana White to fight to The Octagon but seem like the deal was off. Fedor was signed in to fight for a Russian Organization M-1, instantly when randy learned that he can't face fedor, he retires because he felt that there is no one left in the UFC for him to be called a challenge. Truly I would still love to see that match happen but maybe there are just many things in this world that we will never see? and not all dreams will ever happen. Feels like this match is? but we won't know. All we know now is that Randy is not getting younger, and he wants, and must do new things. Is Kimbo Slice a Street Fighter?

First of all who is Kimbo? Well I know many of you internet surfers know this guy pretty well. He is a former under ground bare-knuckle boxer and a porn producer bodyguard. He turned to MMA and beat the former heavy weight Champion boxer Rey Mercer. Got a training lesson from the Former Ufc Haevey Weight Champion Bas “el guapo” Rutten. What I like about this guy is he did display Mma skills when he fought the big guy Mercer, Putting in a good guillotine choke. Shows that even in his age still willing to learn new stuff. Does have a great teacher and a heart of a warrior.

So back to our question, Is Kimbo a street fighter? Well of course he is.! Almost every one of us is a street fighter. To back up this conclusion first let us see what is street fighting.

What’s that suppose to mean? Does kimbo fought on those types of fights? Well the answer is yes! So he is a street fighter. The misconception here is that most of us think of only those fights that broke lose when you have an argument with someone and fight is street fighting, well you might be true. But give the articles below a time before you argue. And if you still insist that street fighting is only limited to argument that broke lose then think of this? Kimbo could do that also.

Types of street fights

"Drunken brawls"

Such gangs may fight with members of gangs sharing common social traits.

English, Scottish, Irish, Italian and German gangs of the nineteenth and early twentieth century gave way to African-American, Asian and Latino gangs as we entered the twenty-first century. Sports riots

Some groups of sports fans consider their territory to be in the stands of sports stadiums or in the surrounding streets. This hooliganism may be an expression of loyalty, approval, anger, or celebration.

Organized crime

Individuals involved in organized crime are more likely to be embroiled in street fights, as these organizations often resort to violence in their quarrels over territory and profits and as a means of controlling their own members. Drug dealers, prostitutes, gamblers, and other individuals and gangs involved in illegal or quasi-legal activity often become embroiled in street fights.

Any crime against individuals, such as personal assault or sexual assault, robbery or mugging can result in a street fight if the victim attempts to fight or if a passerby intervenes on the victim's behalf.

Political conflicts

Political conflict can occur between and among groups or gangs of rival political persuasions. These groups often see police as just another opponent to be fought in the streets.

Labor conflicts

Work disputes may escalate into street fighting when management tries to break a strike by bringing in strike breakers across picket lines. During the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, management would sometimes hire "private security forces" (such as Pinkerton's in the United States) or so called "goons" to harass and physically intimidate picket lines.

Beats every big fighters that Mma could ever put him with in the ring, He made Mirko” Crocop” Filipovic Looks like he is a novice striker by slugging it out with him and emerge as more superior even in striking. Beats The giant Semmy Schults in his Pride Debut, Knock outs the living Crap of Garry Goodridge. Makes Antonio Nogueira looks like he doesn’t know Brazilian jujitsu. Biography

Born in Tilburg, the Netherlands, Bas Rutten became interested in martial arts when he was 12 after watching Enter the Dragon, taking up Tae Kwon Do and getting his black belt in TKD in a year. He eventually got his 2nd Dan in Tae Kwon Do, then he trained in Kyokushin Karate. At the age of 20 he started competing in Thai boxing, going undefeated. Although he credits Kyokushin karate as the base of his striking skills, starting as a striker and later learning submission fighting, Rutten implemented a well balanced mixture of many techniques.

Bas Rutten calls himself "El Guapo" (Spanish for "The Handsome One"). This nickname was given to him by his wife. It is the name of the villain in the movie "The Three Amigos". In his fights, Bas' "trademark" was delivering punches and kicks to the liver of his opponents. In his "Bas Rutten's Big DVDs of Combat" Bas refers to this as a "liver shot". Bas is also known for his characteristic "Rutten Jump," which he performed in the ring every time he won a fight, resembling a jumping split.

Pancrase

Bas began his professional mixed martial arts career with the upstart Japanese fighting organization, Pancrase. In 1993, Japanese pro wrestlers Masakatsu Funaki and Minoru Suzuki traveled to Holland to scout fighters for their new "hybrid wrestling" (bushido wrestling) organization, featuring submission fighting, but with no closed fisted strikes to the face. A precursor to what would become modern mixed martial arts, the organization was the first of its kind, and featured such early MMA names as Frank Shamrock, Vernon White, Maurice Smith, Ken Shamrock, and Guy Mezger.

His lack (at that time) of ground-fighting experience leading to early defeats at the hands of Masakatsu Funaki and the then "King of Pancrase" Ken Shamrock, and more controversially losing to Frank Shamrock by way of a split judge's decision, Bas would come back in 1995 and be dealt another loss from Ken Shamrock, but would go on to beat the previously undefeated Minoru Suzuki and win his first "King of Pancrase" title. Defeated top names like Garry Goodridge, Ken Shamrock, Tank Abbot. At The early days of Ufc He seems unstoppable defeating every opponent that there is because of he’s impressive defense against takedowns and excellent ground and pound. Mark "The Hammer" Coleman (born December 20, 1964) is an American mixed martial arts competitor, former NCAA National Champion Wrestler from Ohio State University, and former Olympic amateur wrestler. Coleman is credited with proving the ability of wrestlers to dominate in the developing sport of mixed martial arts, and with being the inventor of the strategy that came to be known as "ground and pound".

This fighter is so good considering he defeated some of the top names of his time, Like The predator Don Frye which seems to be unstoppable in ufc, The beast Dan Severn a former UFC champion, Garry Goodridge, and still fight today. He fighting skills is undeniable superior as he can still compete in today’s athlete. The fight where he fought Emilianenko Fedor, And the legendary Mirko Crocop was a proof that he is still a top caliber although he already lost some of the greatness once he has.

Joshua L. 'Josh' Barnett ( named The baby face assassin) (born November 10, 1977, in Seattle, Washington) is an Americanmixed martial artsprofessional wrestler. He has an MMA record of 20-5-0 as of January 2007. He holds notable wins over heavyweight fighter and a Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Mark Hunt, Randy Couture, Aleksander Emelianenko, Dan Severn and Yuki Kondo.

Barnett became the youngest UFC heavyweight champion after defeating Randy Couture in early 2002. Later that year, the title was stripped from Barnett after he tested positive for EQ aka Boldenone, an anabolic steroid. His fighting license was temporarily suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission.

He is one of the most intelligent fighters in mma, and being one of my top ten favorite fighter of all time, he truly is one of the best MMA fighter. I just loved when he fought Mirko Crocop, but sadly lost three times. But he did beat The natural and noguiera, I would love to see a fight with him with the indestructible fedor though, I hope that time comes soon.

Another one of my favorite fighter, I don't know but when i see this guy fight it makes me chill. I like the way he moves and he has a great charisma. The way he fight is very advance in his time. He is one of those fighter who truly are MMA fighter, He does Muay thai and Ju jitsu. One of the First to value of cross training in different martial arts. Having a good striking and submissions He truly is one of the best in early times of MMA.

I hope he should have fought rickson gracie in that time. Love it when he cut the polar bear like a big tree when they fought at UFC.

Another one of my top favourite fighter, RICKSON GRACIE.. Born in Rio de Janeiro Brazil, and brother of the former Ufc champion Royce Gracie. Well in my point of view he is one of those men that really excelled in Brazilian jujitsu having claimed winning 400 fights and just 1 loss to a Sambo match in which he didn’t know the proper rules.

Being considered the best Gracie jujitsu fighter at all time, but I still would have loved to see him fought those great names of his times, like Bas Rutten. Remember when bas challenged him in pancrase? Wow! I still would love to see that happen. And the names like Marco Ruas, frank shamrock I’m still thinking why he didn’t fought these names? But seeing him fight in some of the clips that I saw he is really a phenomenal BJJ fighter. Some claims him to be the best MMA fighter but I don’t think so, He is one of the best though. But his stand up skills is not that good, but he makes it up by using is excellent ground skills.

Have you ever experienced a blade pointed at you? more over the person holding that wants to kill you?

Well i'll related to you my first experience in blade pointed at me.
It was Christmas time and i was at our apartment, well actually my girlfriends' apartment because we are just in the same compound at that time. I was a 2nd Year college student then and i have been already trained in martial arts. But that thing will be tested in that day, what happened was i felt hungry and decided to go to our apartment and have some mid night snack. After a while i go back to my girlfriends apartment and i see someone inside at first i thought they were just friends or visitors of there roommates. But when i came to near them i noticed they were so FUGLY looking? and i noticed the other one came right at me after i locked the door and pull out a big screw driver! I thought to my self oh! I'm in for serious trouble so i back off, still don't know what to do if i will fight them or let them run away, i got so scared i almost run. But the problem is i already locked the door then the other one pull out a BIG Knife but didn't attack me. Instead he ran into the lock and opened the door so i thought that would be over. But the smaller guy who has a screw driver really wants to kill me. He tried to swing and grab me but i back off and kick him with a pushing front kick.. Still keeping my distance ( we are fighting in a large sala set) unable to call attention from the neighbors maybe because I'm to shocked.

Then when i see him coming again to attack because i dropped him with the kick. I grab the sala set pillow, a big pillow and we did pillow fight? no just kidding.. I grab the pillow to defect the thrust and try to keep my distance away from him. Then when i got the opportunity to get a flower base I throw it at him. Then i saw the bread knife that is left in the cabinet i grab that one and with a pillow as a shield i tried to cut that stupid burglar also! But the burglar realizing i was going in on him also retreated and run.

Lucky for me because his companion with a big knife didn't interfere and i think i might have died in that one.

Till today i still think of that event and i said to my self damn! if only i have my gun! damn if only i have better skills i could have killed that guy.
But the thing here is that in a real scenario sometimes fancy techniques are pretty hard to execute. Maybe I'm still a newbie but The swings are far more different in real and untrained person who just want to kill you than a attack in training, plus the factor that he wants to kill you.

What i learned here is that don't be stupid. Lots of martial artist think that they are good enough and maybe try to engage in this sort of knife fight.
My best advice is in a armed opponent better you run. There is no point in fighting if you are in a very dead position. But if there is no way out and needed to fight, then go for the kill. and turn the tides by making him feel that he is the hunted, not you.

In an armed combat distance is very important. The best thing if you want to survive is to create distance. get a table a chair or anything that would let him back off, then when the right time comes control his weapon always control the weapon first before you make any fancy moves, like a flying kick or something. those moves that you see on demos and movies would get you killed in a real fight. Ask your master about it and let him tell you if he did ever been in a life or death scenario. I guess he would agree with me.

And don't be stupid to say that in a real knife confrontations you would be so prepared because you have trained this realistic drills, or i have dis armed my partner in the gym fast and i could do that also in real combat. please No, don't be so self confident. learn from this experience. In real knife fight you would get scared even how good a martial artist are you. You will feel terrified you will cough, you get tired and soften after and worst is in the actual combat.

So how can you survive a knife fight? in my summary here is it.

1. If you can run then runaway.
Don't be ashamed of it because it is better than you pulling out a knife in your rib cage.

2. If ever you have no choice then Go for the kill.
You see in order for you to be effectively defend yourself you should be willing to hurt your opponent also, These kind of people don't care about your life so why would you? believe me words will not work. If they have the chance they will and surely kill you. So at least give them a hard time doing it, and better yet bury them.

3. In close combat go and control for the weapon first.
Please do not attempt to kick or even punch a armed person if you didn't get a control of the blade. You will end up like a tuna salad if you do so.

4. If the terrain of the fight is wide create distance.
Like what happened to me, i tried to create distance and wait for a opportunity, if you can grab a chair use it, or anything in your ambiance to gain leverage and create distance.

Believe me and take this advice into consideration it might save your life.

One of my favourite fighter is Antonio Rodrigo'Minotauro' Nogueira I saw him as a very technical fighter especially in brazilian jujitsu. And I was impressed when he defeated Mark Coleman one of my favourite fighter also in the early days of pride. And his victory over the beast Bob Sapp! Man when I watch that fight, I thought that Sapp would win. But really the magician that he is pulled out a great victory over that huge Sapp.

Here is the ten basic strike in arnis de mano. De vera style, Well the strikes are primarily:

1. To the left temple
2. to the right knee
3. to the left knee
4. to the right temple
5. trust to the abdomen
6. slash to the right hip
7. slash to the left hip
8. thrust to the right eye
9. thrust to the left eye
10. the forehead.

This one is the basis on how we block, counter and disarm an opponent.
Start practicing slowly and then try to do it faster and faster.

My time in Arnis de mano_2

I meet my instructor Roger Conos. And he is the head Instructor of arnis de vera at that time because our teacher is in the US. Our art focus mainly on knife fight, Single stick style. Corto or close quarter And we have three rankings.
1. Puti = White Belt in Other Style.
2. Luntian = Green Belt
3. Arnisador = Black
I trained for 5 months and the sir roger decided to test me with those other members actually that time frame in our art should not yet be tested but I try to show them that I can catch up and even do better than most of his older students and we tested.
The test composed of basic strikes and there blocks in real time no padding. And the last two parts is a stick combat, I had big lumps in my head after wards because I got hit in my forehead. After that we spar in Multiple attackers and I mean we don’t have kata style we fight real time my goodness! my hands after wards have lots of strikes in it, but it was worth it when they promoted me and pass the test. I trained and competed for a year and now focuses mainly in real combat applications of the art.
