Mixed Martial Arts???

What is mixed martial arts? Well this one is very broad topic considering its name "mixed" means mixture of all martial art and that would be a lot. By definition

Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a combat sport in which a wide variety of fighting techniques are used, including striking and grappling.

Modern mixed martial arts emerged in 1985 with Satoru Sayama's creation of the Shooto league, followed by Pancrase and the Ultimate Fighting Championships in 1993.

The history of the modern sport can be traced to the Gracie family's vale tudo martial arts tournaments in Brazil starting in the 1920s, and early mixed martial arts matches hosted by Antonio Inoki in Japan in the 1970s. The sport gained international exposure and widespread publicity in the United States in 1993, when Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter Royce Gracie dominated the Ultimate Fighting Championship, sparking a revolution in Western martial arts,[1] while in Japan the continued interest in the sport resulted in 1997's creation of the PRIDE Fighting Championships.

I first seen mixed martial arts in the early days of ufc when I saw Royce gracie beat big guys such as ken shamrock and I think at that time they have proved the superiority of their art Which is Brazilian jiu jitsu they seem to be unbeatable at that time.

But long before that a lot of Mixed martial arts predecessors the most well known is the art of Greek pankration One of the earliest forms of widespread unarmed combat sports with minimal rules, which was introduced into the Olympic Games in 648 B.C.

Today mixed Martial arts are governed by sanctioning bodies such as UFC, Pride Fc, KOTC, And most of them have already required fighter to have a license issued by the Nevada athletic committee. Long are the days where it has very small rules.
